The fourth issue (2025) of ArtSloth magazine - an online platform based in India dedicated to supporting young and emerging artists - features an extensive interview with Gaya Lastovjak. ArtSloth magazine, whose mission is to bridge the gap between new talents and the broader art world, presented the artist’s profile and her unique creative philosophy. In the interview, Gaya Lastovjak discusses in detail the technical aspects of her work, inspirations, and the philosophical foundations that shape the narrative of her art.
Lastovjak’s works are distinguished by their sculptural quality and three-dimensionality, achieved through the demanding papier-mâché technique. This process is time-consuming and requires extraordinary precision. The artist consciously replaced colour with white, allowing the three-dimensional paintings to subtly change depending on the angle of light throughout the day, which gives them dynamism and complexity.
A self-taught artist with a background in art history, she views her academic experience as complementary to her practice, lending her works deeper meaning and message. Central to Lastovjak's work is a fascination with philosophical anthropology and human psychology. She draws inspiration from the ideas of ancient and contemporary thinkers, exploring issues of the unity of body and soul and the entire spectrum of human emotions - from suffering and anxiety to joy and hope. These works explore the duality of human nature, yet always leave an element of hope.
The interview spans seven pages of the magazine in total. The cover of the issue features a reproduction of the painting "Pain". It is worth noting that being featured on the cover of an international industry magazine is a significant honour and an important distinction in an artistic career. W czwartym wydaniu (2025) czasopisma ArtSloth — platformy internetowej z siedzibą w Indiach, dedykowanej wspieraniu młodych i wschodzących artystów — ukazał się obszerny wywiad z Gayą Lastovjak. Magazyn ArtSloth, którego misją jest wypełnianie luki pomiędzy nowymi talentami a szerszym światem sztuki, zaprezentował sylwetkę artystki oraz jej unikalną filozofię twórczą. W rozmowie Gaya Lastovjak szczegółowo omawia techniczne aspekty powstawania jej prac, inspiracje oraz filozoficzne podstawy, które kształtują narrację jej sztuki.
Prace Lastovjak wyróżniają się rzeźbiarską trójwymiarowością i jakością, osiągniętą dzięki wymagającej technice papier-mâché. Proces ten jest czasochłonny i wymaga niezwykłej precyzji. Artystka świadomie zrezygnowała z koloru na rzecz bieli, pozwalając trójwymiarowym obrazom subtelnie zmieniać się w zależności od kąta padania światła w ciągu dnia, co nadaje im dynamiki i złożoności.
Artystka, będąca samoukiem z wykształceniem w zakresie historii sztuki, postrzega swoje akademickie tło jako komplementarne wobec praktyki, nadając jej pracom głębszy sens i przekaz. Centralnym punktem twórczości Lastovjak jest fascynacja antropologią filozoficzną i psychologią człowieka. Czerpie inspiracje z myśli dawnych i nowych myślicieli, zgłębiając zagadnienia jedności ciała i duszy oraz całe spektrum ludzkich emocji – od cierpienia i lęku po radość i nadzieję. Prace te eksplorują dwoistość ludzkiej natury, zawsze jednak pozostawiając element nadziei.
Wywiad w całości obejmuje siedem stron czasopisma. Na okładce wydania widnieje reprodukcja obrazu „Ból”.
