In her latest series of paintings, Gaya Lastovjak consciously eschews technical classification of her work. The artist avoids comparisons to sculptural three-dimensionality or other spatial forms, suggesting that the formal layer is merely a medium, not an end in itself. At the center of her universe stands the human being – not captured literally, but filtered through the prism of extreme emotions and fleeting states of consciousness.
The author employs a language of radical reduction. On the canvases, we find only fragments of human anatomy – a hand, an arm, the outline of a silhouette – stripped down to the essential minimum required to preserve the authenticity of a gesture. This economy of expression paradoxically intensifies the power of the message. Every sketched movement becomes an allusion, a kind of mental seed that triggers an avalanche of associations in the viewer.
The unspoken plays a crucial role in Lastovjak’s work. A subtle hand gesture or a specific muscle tension becomes a pretext for multi-layered interpretations. The artist masterfully builds an atmosphere of anxiety and existential tension, suspending her figures in a void that demands to be filled. In doing so, she provokes the viewer to step into the role of co-creator – it is the recipient who, confronting their own experiences, must "finish" the work, giving it its final meaning and emotional weight.
"In presenting this series of paintings, Gaya Lastovjak does not explicitly specify her technique. Rather, she rejects comparisons to sculpture or other spatial forms. This is not what matters. What is important is the figure, the human being, their emotions, and states of consciousness. The author portrays them in a reduced manner; in the works, we perceive only the fragments of the human body necessary to maintain the gesture. What counts is the allusion, the spark, the pretext expressed in a small gesture. Yet these gestures carry a vast wealth of associations, possibilities for resolution, and interpretations. The author evokes tension and anxiety, provoking the viewer to complete the work."

W swojej najnowszej serii obrazów Gaya Lastovjak świadomie rezygnuje z technicznej klasyfikacji swoich prac. Artystka unika zestawień z rzeźbiarskim trójwymiarem czy innymi formami przestrzennymi, sugerując, że warstwa formalna to jedynie medium, a nie cel sam w sobie. W centrum jej wszechświata stoi bowiem człowiek – ale nie ten ujęty w sposób dosłowny, lecz przefiltrowany przez pryzmat skrajnych emocji i ulotnych stanów świadomości.
Autorka posługuje się językiem radykalnej redukcji. Na płótnach odnajdujemy jedynie fragmenty ludzkiej anatomii – dłoń, ramię, zarys sylwetki – sprowadzone do niezbędnego minimum, które pozwala zachować autentyczność gestu. Ta oszczędność środków wyrazu paradoksalnie potęguje siłę przekazu. Każdy zarysowany ruch staje się aluzją, swoistym zaczynem myślowym, który uruchamia w odbiorcy lawinę skojarzeń.
To, co niedopowiedziane, gra u Lastovjak kluczową rolę. Drobny gest dłoni czy specyficzne napięcie mięśni stają się pretekstem do wielowarstwowych interpretacji. Artystka mistrzowsko buduje atmosferę niepokoju i egzystencjalnego napięcia, zawieszając swoje postacie w próżni, która domaga się wypełnienia. Tym samym prowokuje widza do wejścia w rolę współtwórcy – to odbiorca, konfrontując się z własnymi doświadczeniami, musi „dokończyć” dzieło, nadając mu ostateczne znaczenie i emocjonalny ciężar.
"Gaya Lastovjak prezentując serię obrazów, nie wskazuje jasno techniki. Raczej odrzuca porównania do rzeźby czy innych form przestrzennych. To nie jest istotne. Ważna jest postać, człowiek, jego emocje i stany świadomości. Autorka ukazuje je w sposób zredukowany, na pracach dostrzegamy jedynie niezbędne do zachowania gestu fragmenty ludzkiego ciała. Liczy się aluzja, zaczyn, pretekst wyrażony w drobnym geście. Gesty te pociągają za sobą jednak ogromne bogactwo skojarzeń, możliwości rozwiązań, interpretacji. Autorka wzbudza napięcie, niepokój, prowokuje odbiorcę do skończenia dzieła."
